China shows off its ‘explosion-proof’ trams
Lightweight materials including carbon fiber and aluminum composite boards were used extensively on the train, whose underframe structure is made of non-ferromagnetic material that can prevent magnetic bombs from being attached to it. Windows are also equipped with explosion-proof glass that can withstand the impact of stones and burning bottles.

Qiantu K50 electric sports car was designed in China, will be built in the U.S.
Currently sold in China, the K50 features curvaceous carbon fiber bodywork over an aluminum chassis. The 29 carbon-fiber body panels save 40 pounds over steel, and 20 pounds over aluminum bodywork, according to Mullen. The styling should attract plenty of attention, although passersby might confuse the K50 with a McLaren 570S or Acura NSX.

Even though China is rich in coal and natural gas, GWM intends to follow the most challenging path - creating hydrogen from water, through 'hydrolysis'. Expensive metals including platinum, titanium and carbon fibres go into producing the fuel cell; that cost inevitably transfers to the vehicle's on-road cost.

Lotus, aiming for comeback, announces the U.K.’s first all-electric hypercar
The news of the Type 130 came with the additional announcement of the Lotus Evora GT4 Concept, a track-only racer with a lightweight carbon-fibre body, a 450-horsepower V6 engine, and a top speed of 273 km/h. Both cars are examples of a renewed push at Lotus – after a roughly £1.5 billion (US$1.97 billion) investment from Geely – to gain relevance in the key U.S. and Chinese automotive markets.

Get a glimpse of China’s 1st generation fighter jet in action
“J-15 prototype Number 551 was flying by 2009, and the following year it was tested taking off from a simulated carrier deck. The J-15 retained the Su-33’s folding wings for more efficient stowage in a carrier deck, and tailhook and strengthened landing gear for carrier-landing. However, it uses a higher proportion of composite materials than the Su-33 to save weight, and has a lower landing speed of 150 miles per hour (compared to 168) to make carrier landing easier. It was also outfitted to be more versatile multirole platform than the air-superiority oriented Su-33,” the National Interest reported.

The penetration rate of composites within the wind energy industry is up to 67% in 2018, i.e. an increase of 15 points between 2010 and 2018. The global wind energy instaleed capacity has grown at 23% p.a. since 1997, with a strong growth from China. The annual new capacity for global wind energy is stable since 2012 and Wind Energy represents 5% in volume of global composites market. In value, the wind energy industry makes up 8% of the total composites market in 2016. In 2016-2021, its share of growth within the total composites market is estimated to be 9%. The wind energy industry continues to innovate especially in the field of Offshore where dimensions are sometimes bigger than the wingspan of the Airbus A380. From 1990 to 2020, the diameter of rotor is estimated to evolve from 30m to 180m. In 2016, about half turbines in the market have blades longer than 50m. Challenges in terms of price and technology are high. Here are some of the latest examples.
